Smart transportation solutions provider LILEE Systems has launched a new hi-rail collision avoidance system, named SafeRail.
The company claimed that it has introduced the first complete hi-rail collision avoidance system.
The new system can be combined with the SafeRide fleet safety solution, protecting hi-rail vehicles on the tracks and roads.
To avoid collisions, LILEE Systems’ SafeRail solution offers proximity and authority limit alerts.
The new system merges with the AMTEC dispatch system and oversees the set authority limits and sends alerts in the event of speeding or when hi-rail vehicles get too close to one other.
The company noted that SafeRail keeps a record of all unsafe events for future reference.
The system also comes with a Foreman Mobile App that enables the Daily Hi-Rail Inspection form to be submitted electronically by integrating with the Amtrak workflow.
This application permits the foreman to receive the limit authority, as well as alerts and give permissions to another foreman.
The AI-based SafeRide system has the capability to detect obstacles and estimate the distance from the hindrance.
It sends an alert when the distance becomes unsafe, protecting maintenance vehicles on the way from unexpected objects.
LILEE Systems co-founder and technology vice-president Yale Lee said: “PTC is a federally mandated system with controlled monitoring and functions for locomotives. Maintenance vehicles do not have a similar control system so collisions can still occur. Either between the train and vehicle, between two vehicles or between a vehicle and an obstacle in the way. SafeRail was created to complete the safety story and protect maintenance-of-way workers and vehicles.”
