Poland’s rail infrastructure manager Polskie Linie Kolejowe (PKP PLK) has awarded a €182m ($215m) signalling contract to Thales.

Thales will be responsible for the modernisation of 650km-long E20 Kunowice-Terespol line and the 135km-long E30 Kraków-Rzeszów line in Southern Poland, under the contract.

The contractual scope also includes the deployment of Level 2 European Rail Traffic Management System/European Train Control System (ERTMS/ETCS) on the two rail lines.

PKP PLK intends to enhance safety by reducing the number of accidents through the deployment of the modern signalling system.

Alstom has signed a contract with Norwegian railway authority Bane NOR for the implementation of onboard train control systems across its rail fleet in Norway.

The control system is based on Alstom’s Atlas European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) solution. It is compatible for operation on the rail lines equipped with the ATC-2 system and ERTMS Level 2 system.

The deployment of the control solution is majorly intended to reduce train delays and enhance safety levels.

French railway company SNCF Rail has placed a contract with Otis France for the installation of 171 NPE escalators and moving walkways for rail projects in the country.

The contract also includes maintenance and midlife renovations of the supplied equipment for a period of 15 years.

Project Eole (East-West Express) stations will be installed with 75 escalators, while 94 escalators and two moving walkways will be fitted at the Magenta and Haussmann Saint-Lazare stations.

Installation is expected to be completed within seven years.

OmniTRAX A has reached an agreement with a consortium led by Fairfax Financial Holdings for the acquisition and restoration of the Churchill rail line.

The consortium will also buy the Port of Churchill, as part of the agreement.

The rail line was damaged due to heavy floods in May 2017, and the acquisition proposal came after the expression of disinterest from OmniTRAX to repair the rail line.

Other participating companies in the consortium include OneNorth, AGT Food and Ingredients, and Missinippi Rail Partners.
