Siemens has secured a €340m ($420m) contract from Turkey’s state-owned national rail carrier, Turkish State Railways (TCDD), for the supply of ten Velaro high-speed trains.
Siemens will also provide maintenance services for the trains for a three-year period as part of the deal.
The latest contract increases TCDD’s total fleet of Velaro trains to 17 units, while seven Velaro locomotives are currently operational across mainland Turkey’s rail network.
A consortium led by Austrian construction firm PORR has been contracted for the construction of the flagship Brenner Base Tunnel in Austria.
The deal is valued at approximately €966m ($1.19bn).
The consortium will be responsible for the construction of the 18km lot H51 Pfons-Brenner section of the 64km-long Brenner Base Tunnel (BBT) under the arrangement.
Construction of the 18km-long section is expected to be completed by 2024.
The BBT tunnel is intended to provide a railway link from Austria to Italy upon its completion by 2025.
The consortium partners comprise PORR, Hinteregger, Società Italiana per Condotte d’Acqua and Itinera.
UK-based rail operator Network Rail has awarded a £115m ($143m) supply contract to Balfour Beatty.
Balfour Beatty will supply a total of 13 track maintenance vehicles as part of the agreement, as well as provide associated maintenance services for a period of seven years.
Known as ‘tampers’ or ‘on-track machines’, the contracted vehicles are set to be used for the maintenance and upgrade of railway tracks in order to facilitate safe and smooth travel.
The first vehicle is expected to be delivered in 2021 and will operate along the Anglia and South-East routes.
The Government of Macau has awarded a HK$5.71bn ($727m) maintenance and operational services contract to MTR Operações Ferroviárias (Macau) Sociedade Unipessoal (MTR (Macau)), a subsidiary of Hong Kong-based company MTR.
MTR (Macau) will conduct a series of testing and commissioning activities on the Macau LRT Taipa Line as part of the deal.
The contractor has also agreed to maintain the signalling network, rolling stock and other assorted infrastructure under the contract.
The 9.3km-long Taipa Line is expected to become operational in 2019.
Mosaic Transit Group (MTG) has secured a design, build, finance and maintenance contract from Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Metrolinx.
MTG is slated to develop and operate Canada’s Finch West Light Rail Transit (FWLRT) project as part of the arrangement.
The organisation will also be responsible for the construction of 16 surface stops, as well as an interchange station and a storage facility.
MTG comprises CRH Canada Group, Aecon Concession and ACS Infrastructure Canada.
The Public Transport Ministry of Victoria has awarded an upgrade contract to Australia-based design and infrastructure services provider Downer Group.
Downer Group is set to oversee design and construction works related to the upgrade of Victoria’s Bendigo and Eaglehawk Stations under the deal.
It will also be responsible for providing a pedestrian bridge for the project, which is expected to be integrated with lifts, ramps and other facilities.
