German rail transport company Eisenbahngesellschaft Potsdam (EGP) has awarded a contract to Siemens to supply three Smartron locomotives.

Based on Siemens’ Vectron platform, the locomotives are designed to carry freight and reduce operational expenses.

The locomotives will have a maximum power output of 5,600kW and can attain a maximum speed of 140km/h. The trains are expected to be delivered next year.

CRRC Puzhen Bombardier Transportation Systems Limited (PBTS), a joint venture (JV) of Bombardier Transportation and CRRC Corporation, has been awarded a CNY453m ($70m) contract by Shenzhen Airport to provide an automated people mover (APM) system.

“Scheduled to start operations in 2020, the APM system will link the airside satellite station and Shenzhen Airport’s Terminal 3.”

The scope of the contract includes the supply of Bombardier Innovia APM 300 system, and an integrated system package, including 18 railcars and a 2.6km APM line.

Germany-based transport service producer Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr (rnv) has awarded a €250m ($290.3m) contract to Škoda Transportation for the supply of 80 modern trams.

The trams will be deployed across Mannheim, Ludwigshafen and Heidelberg.

Škoda Transportation will deliver 31 30m-long trams, 37 40m-long trams and 12 60m-long trains, under the contract.

The contract also includes an option to extend the order by 34 trains.

The first tram is expected to start operations in 2021.

Swiss Federal Railways has placed a €16m ($18.5m) contract with Alstom for the upgradation of 19 Pendolino high-speed trains of its Astoro fleet.

The trains will be installed with Alstom’s ATLAS European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 baseline 3, as part of the contract.

The ETCS is the core component of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS).

Colas has secured two contracts with a combined value of €63m ($73.15m) for the development of second tramway line in Angers, France.

The new 10.1km-long rail line will run through the city centre and connect Belle-Beille with Monplaisir.

The first contract worth €42m ($48.78m) was awarded to Colas Rail for platform construction, power system installation, laying tracks and extending the current rail storage unit.

Construction of the tram line will start later this year and is scheduled for completion by the first half of 2021.

Worth €20.7m ($24m), the second contract was awarded to a consortium of TPPL, Colas Projects and Colas Centre – Ouest. The scope of the contract includes the improvement of urban road infrastructure associated with the new tramway line.
