Global engineering company Bechtel has signed an agreement to provide project management services for Texas Central’s bullet train project.

Texas Central is currently engaged in developing a high-speed train between North Texas and Houston in the US state.

Under the new partnership, Bechtel will support Texas Central’s high-speed train project as it moves from development to implementation.

“The addition of Bechtel, with its experience in train and mega-infrastructure project experience, is another sign of the expertise this project is attracting and leveraging.”

Texas Central CEO Carlos Aguilar said: “We’re putting all of the elements together, building toward the expected 10,000 direct jobs each year during construction in Texas.

“The addition of Bechtel, with its experience in train and mega-infrastructure project experience, is another sign of the expertise this project is attracting and leveraging.”

The development is said to be the latest important step forward for the project, a 200mph train connecting major cities in Texas in 90 minutes.

Bechtel’s Americas Infrastructure general manager Scott Osborne said: “We look forward to using our international high-speed train experience to progress this transformative project in the US.

“The high-speed connection between Houston and North Texas will begin a new era of travel and convenience for riders.”

The latest partnership comes after Fluor and The Lane Construction Corporation were selected by Texas Central to perform pre-construction planning with engineering support from engineering and professional services consultancy WSP.

Texas Central and its affiliated entities will be responsible for the design, finance, construction, operation and maintenance of the system.
