Vienna Consulting Engineers (VCE) is an independent, high-tech consulting firm based in Austria.
For more than 30 years, the company has provided consultancy services related to the development, detailed structural design and construction of ballastless tracks and their components, as well as sleepers, rail fastening systems and specialised construction elements.
VCE also offers design, development and consulting services for new tram and underground railway routes, as well as reconstruction and rehabilitation of existing lines.
The company develops project-specific, basic, approval, tender and detailed structural designs. It also supervises projects and tests system components.
Traffic design for railways and trams
VCE offers comprehensive services in the field of national and international traffic design. One focus is on the design of public traffic routes, such as underground railways and suburban railways, as well as trams.
The company’s services range from project studies and development concepts, to elaboration of alignments and submission designs, to general and detailed projects.
Acoustics, dynamics and measurement instrumentation
VCE’s Competence Center Acoustics, Dynamics & Measurement Instrumentation offers a comprehensive range of services for sustainable improvement of environmental conditions on railways.
The company covers the whole environmental field, including immissions and climate protection, energy and environmental technology, building physics and room acoustics, as well as material and lifecycle analyses through its interdisciplinary team of specialists.
VCE’s services range from measurement-based analysis and assessment of various parameters, to the development of new measurement systems for national and international research projects.
Building information modelling (BIM)
Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a method of optimised design, implementation and management of buildings and projects.
BIM connects heterogeneous and increasingly complex data amounts of all disciplines involved to establish a consistent database, which is available worldwide and quickly provides all information required.
VCE’s experienced modelling staff are trained to use commercial software like Autodesk Revit and others, allowing them to provide 3D, 4D and 5D BIM designs.
Lifecycle and risk analysis
VCE performs reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety (RAMS) evaluations through its specific in-house team, which is internationally renowned for its work on lifecycle analyses.
In addition, the company has experience in evaluation and assessment of risks according to common safety methods (CSM) Commission Regulation (EU) 402/2013, in the fields of infrastructure, energy, control command and signalling, operation and maintenance.
It has been applied in the VDE 8.2 (infrastructure) and Vinschgaubahn (energy) projects, amongst others.
