TRB Lightweight Structures Attends Trade Mission in the Baltics

British Embassy in Lithuania

Forming part of a long-term strategy to serve European Rail customers, TRB Lightweight Structures recently participated in a trade mission to the Baltic regions.

Aiming to maximise the UK company’s exposure and opportunities in Europe, the mission focused on the planned 728km Rail Baltica project. Working with three countries from the region including Estonia; Lithuania and Latvia, the mission was supported by UKTI and local embassies together with the backing of RIA and was attended by Lord Livingston, minister of state for trade and industry.

Rail Baltica is a project to build a new rail line from Poland, through Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, finishing at the port at Tallinn (capital of Estonia). The new rail line will predominantly be used for freight, transporting coal, oil, chemicals and timber from Russia through to Poland, Germany and onwards. The line is also expected to increase passenger numbers thanks, in part, to speeds of 240km/h.

Construction of the project is due to begin in 2019 and is expected to be operational in 2025.

TRB gained recognition for their capability to produce lightweight, integrated technical solutions. These include the recent success of their PRM-compliant Universal Access Toilet Module, due to be installed on the Riviera Sleeper in early April, and their bike storage solution recently designed and installed in Japan on the Hitachi Class 800/801 trains for the IEP Programme.
