One-Stop Shop Success Brings Second Order

Faced with the need for more displays as a result of platform extensions to accommodate longer trains, First Capital Connect (FCC) decided to use electronic display specialist Infotec as a ‘one-stop shop’ for the work.

Among the nine stations concerned were Bedford, Luton, St. Albans and West Hampstead and the displays being provided had to interface with the existing system as well as visually match what was already there.

FCC CIS delivery manager Paul Cooper said: "FCC decided rather than just order the displays and brackets from Infotec we would get them to project manage the whole thing and to sub-contract the installation directly, something we’d never done before. Usually we contract the installer ourselves.

"Doing it this way meant we had a single point of contact and one contractor to manage, making the whole process much easier.

"Infotec delivered full designs for each station, landlord’s consents, signal sighting, all of the contractors’ paperwork and managed the install contractor directly. Everything was delivered on time and on budget, the project took about six months in total.

"FCC was very happy with it all and we have now decided to use the same approach again for upgrade work at City Thameslink."

Infotec Ltd. is based in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire and today its products are used to provide display solutions for overground, underground, bus, metro and on-vehicle systems.

It also provides display networking equipment, secondary steelwork and a full service of design, manufacture, supply, install and maintain. Infotec offers ‘the complete electronic display system solution for the transport sector’.
