Grau Elektronik develops and manufactures voltage converters, battery chargers, dead battery starter converters controlled rectifiers. Our spectrum contains DC/DC, AC/DC and DC/AC converters with an output power range 25 W to 55kW, as well as customized power solutions.
We are European leader with our dead battery starter modules for railway applications. These units have an input voltage range 400VDC to 5075V for different main voltages 750V, 1000V, 1500V and 3000VDC. The output power ranges is between 75W and 600W.
We offer application-optimized standard power supplies as well as customized solutions. Our technical developments guarantee highest customer satisfaction. Grau Elektronik engineers are experienced in power electronics, switch mode power supplies and converter technology. Detailed knowledge in the EMV sector ensures the quick realization from the concept to production.
Development and electrical performance testings, sales and marketing is located in Karlsbad Ittersbach, Germany. 24 experienced and motivated employees in development, CAD, construction and logistic departments provide solutions with a very attractive price to performance ratio.
We realise solutions for customized power supplies in the shortest time, with all accompanying tests (temperature, EMV and vibration / shock). Close cooperation with the client guarantees optimal solutions.
Grau Elektronik is certified to ISO 9001 quality standard.
SBB DC/DC converter (Vin: 13.5V to 154V; Vout: 5V, 15V, 24V, 36V, ± 15V or ± 24V) are designed for 19in system and chassis mounting. DDB single output converters 25W to 500W are available with 10ms hold-up time, class S2 IEC 60571. Operating temperature range is – 40°C to + 85°C at EN 50155.
The converters can be switched on and off electronically by an enable input signal. The output voltage is monitored under and over voltage. The converters are continuously no-load and short-circuit proofed.
The WBB high-efficiency converters have single outputs of 12V, 24V, 48V and 72V. Output power of 50W, 100W. The DC/DC converters are designed according to EN 50155 and EN 50121-3-2. All converters include an output current limiting stage and are no-load and short-circuit proofed. These converters with very high efficiency; produce low losses and reduced parts stress with an excellent MTBF value.
The converters fulfill vibration and shock demands according to IEC 68-2-27. All inputs are protected against reverse polarity connection either by a parallel input diode together with a melting fuse or series transistor.
Grau Elektronik has developed a transient recorder device which is able to measure and record input overvoltages outside IEC 850, EN 50163 demands.
In many cases an independent voltage source, beside the on-board battery, will be needed to start a control system inside trains, locos, trams, and E-busses.
DC / DC converters must be able to provide a stable and reliable voltage supply for different kinds of electronic control systems.

This white paper showcases Grau Elektronik's range of power supplies and battery chargers for rail applications.
Grau Elektronik manufactures voltage converters and battery chargers. Its product spectrum contains DC/DC, AC/DC and DC/AC converters with an output power range from 1W to 10kW, as well as customised power solutions. We are a European leader in this market through our dead battery starter modules for railway applications.
Grau Elektronik's DDB DC / DC converters offer a complete power solution, with no additional electronic (such as filters, transient protection or y-caps) or mechanical parts (such as heatsinks) required.
Grau has introduced its DC / DC Converter KLB for 24V / 600V, 110V / 600V, 24V / 1,000V and 110V / 1,000V applications.
Equipment manufacturers of propulsion systems for railway vehicles always face the problem that there is any need for short time peak power availability switching magneto-inductive loads (circuit breakers) direct from catenary input voltage.
Grau Elektronik's 25W DC/DC high-reliability rail converters for chassis or PCB mounting are available for two different input voltage ranges: 14.4V-50.4V and 43.2V-154V at EN 50155. The operating temperature range is -40°C up to +70°C (85°C for 10min). The converters are de
Our 250W DC/DC converters for railway applications have a 10ms hold-up time, as well as the following features: Voltage in: 43.2V-154V or 14.4V-50.4V at EN 50155 Voltage out: 24V or 48V Temperature range: -40°C to +85°C without derating MTBF:
