Dellner Couplers AB, world leader in coupling systems, has developed the D-REX system which makes establishing of Ethernet LAN easy and guarantees safe transmission throughout trains.

It is estimated that 98% of all the trains in operation worldwide could benefit from new and improved technical solutions to the internal passenger safety operating functions, if the system for internal signal transmission was safe and fast.

For many years the various difficult train operating conditions have made installation of Ethernet equipment between the trains impossible.

Many of the modern applications require a bandwidth in Ethernet LAN and a large percentage of today’s active trains fleet cannot be adapted. For example video-transfer, which requires a transmission rate up to 100Mbit/s, in order to work in real time. Further, at many locations it is common that the traffic stays still during the most problematic hours, when the risk for crime is at its highest. The use of on board CCTV could prevent or reduce this crime potential.

The main requirement and objective for our engineers at Dellner has been to offer a system to accommodate various applications which require safe Ethernet connections, even when the trains have to be reconnected. “It is not acceptable for a train to be delayed or stationary due to the fact that the passengers have no guarantee of a safe journey.” says Dellner’s MD Jerker Höglund. “Costs and penalties incurred by the train operating companies for such delays or stoppages are much higher than the costs of upgrading a fleet with our Robust Ethernet, D-REX system. With D-REX we make signal transmission safe and fast. With D-REX on a train we also make many applications possible, such as internet and entertainment services for all passengers…”

D-REX is not limited to new couplers, but can also be retrofitted on the most of the current operating fleets worldwide.
