FRA Administrator Ronald L Batory said: “This funding will make a significant contribution to freight and passenger rail-related capital projects in our communities, help our nation’s rail infrastructure to be brought into a state of good repair and ultimately make a big difference in people’s lives.”

The SOGR Program is devised to provide funding to refurbish or repair infrastructure in order to improve intercity passenger rail performance.

It awards funding for upgrading rail infrastructure such as track, switches, bridges and highway-rail grade crossings, modernising stations, and procuring or overhauling equipment, including passenger cars.

In June, FRA awarded around $326m for 45 railroad infrastructure projects in 29 states. This funding was provided under the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) Program, as well as the Special Transportation Circumstances Program.
