A joint venture (JV) of CPB Contractors and UGL, Systems Connect, has secured a contract worth A$1.376bn ($1bn) for Sydney Metro works that will extend the metro railway.
Awarded by the New South Wales Government in Australia, the contract involves the delivery of a line-wide works package for the Sydney Metro City & Southwest project.

This is the seventh Sydney Metro City & Southwest contract to be awarded by the government.
New South Wales Transport and Infrastructure Minister Andrew Constance said: “We’re currently digging twin new metro tunnels between Chatswood and Sydenham, this is the contract that will turn these tunnels into a working railway.
“This major investment extends metro rail from Sydney’s booming north-west, delivering a new 66km railway for Sydney in 2024.”
The work includes laying 31km of track in the twin railway tunnels from Chatswood to Sydenham, installation of overhead power equipment with 11 substations for the metro service from Chatswood to Bankstown and installation of tunnel service cabling.

By GlobalDataIt also involves connecting the metro lines from Chatswood to the tracks into the city, expansion of the Sydney Metro Trains Facility at Rouse Hill and building a metro train facility at Marrickville.
Additionally, the JV will install tunnel equipment such as ventilation, drainage and monitoring components across the seven underground stations.
Constance added: “As part of our plan to improve transport, new metro rail will help give people more choice on how they get around Sydney.”
The government has set a budget of Sydney Metro City & Southwest project at A$11.5bn ($8.35bn) to A$12.5bn ($9.08bn).
