Stadler has revealed its first new unit of Mälartåg (Mälar train) in cooperation with Mälab and Transitio at the Stockholm Central Station in Sweden.
The new train represents the first of 33 new double-decker trains ordered from Stadler by Transitio and commissioned by Mälab. It is scheduled to begin operating in Sweden’s Mälardalen region from next year.

Mälartåg is part of Stadler’s DOSTO doubledeck train portfolio, which is designed to operate in Nordic winter conditions.
The train will be designed to deal with the Swedish load profile and handle damage caused by collisions with wildlife.
Its carriages will be built using Mälab’s future Mälartågen brand, and will be around 105m-long with a top speed of 200km/h.
Train interiors will be designed to facilitate daily one to two hour commutes, featuring adjustable chairs with work tables, power outlets, and Wi-Fi.

By GlobalDataEach train will have 357 fixed seats, including folding chairs, as well as storage for large luggage and bicycles.
The trains will feature European (EUROCAB) driver’s cabin with cab doors.
Stadler marketing and sales executive vice-president Peter Jenelten said: “The train is well-proven for Nordic conditions, with an excellent track record from Norway, Finland and other countries with long winters.
“The train has been further adapted for Sweden in collaboration with Swedish designers, and have high standards of functionality, comfort and durability.”
Stadler previously deployed its DOSTO trains in Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Luxembourg, Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan and the US.
