The first Alstom Coradia Polyvalent train has entered commercial service for Algeria’s national railway Société Nationale des Transports Ferroviaires d’Algérie (SNTF), following the successful completion of static and dynamic tests.
The news was announced at an event attended by Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Transport Abdelghani Zalene, who also opened a mainline station that will be used by the new trains.

In July 2015, SNTF awarded a contract to Alstom to supply 17 Coradia Polyvalent trains.
Alstom Middle East and Africa senior vice-president Didier Pfleger said: “The first Coradia Polyvalent train for Algeria enters commercial service today.
“This is, for us, a confirmation of the trust of our customer and of our partners in Algeria. Our ambition is to perpetuate this partnership and contribute to the development of the railway sector in Algeria.”
The first train was delivered to SNTF after the completion of static tests at Alstom’s Reichshoffen site in France and dynamic tests at the Vélim railway test centre in the Czech Republic.

The trains are scheduled to be delivered throughout the year, and are designed to serve major cities across Algeria. They are being manufactured at the Reichshoffen site.
The new train is equipped with air-conditioning system and designed speficially for Algerian climatic conditions. The low floor Coradia Polyvalent train has been designed to enable easy access and boarding.
