The Government of Ontario in Canada has issued a Request for Bids (RFB) to develop the environmental assessment terms of reference for the Kitchener-Waterloo to London portion of the Toronto-Windsor high-speed rail corridor.
The terms of reference will provide a framework to plan and carry out the project’s environmental assessment.

All aspects of the corridor development will be considered as part of the framework, including station construction, track locations, energy requirements, expected ridership and parking facilities, as well as the possible individual impact on the environment.
New train and safety standards are also scheduled to be developed in collaboration with Transport Canada to develop the environmental assessment process.
Ontario Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca said: “This historic project is the first of its kind in Canada and will be one of the largest planning and environmental assessments our province has ever completed.
“We are investing in modern, integrated transit that will make life easier for commuters and families and get people where they need to go faster.”

By GlobalDataThe high-speed rail line is expected to feature stops at Windsor, Chatham, London, Kitchener-Waterloo, Guelph and Toronto Union Station and is expected to serve more than seven million people.
The province will engage with indigenous communities and municipalities during the environmental assessment and design work process, as well as private and public partners.
It has also launched a new website to provide up-to-date information regarding the progress of the environmental assessment.
