A Fluor-led joint venture (JV) comprising Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Herzog Contracting Group and The Middlesex has been selected as the design-build team for the nearly $2bn Green Line Light Rail Extension project in Boston, US.

The contract was awarded by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and will involve the construction of seven stations, including the relocated Lechmere Station and a vehicle storage and maintenance facility.

It will also see the addition of a mainline branch of MBTA’s Lowell Line from the relocated Lechmere Station in Cambridge to Medford, as well as a branch line for the MBTA Fitchburg Line to Union Square in Somerville.

Fluor infrastructure business line president Hans Dekker said: “Fluor is pleased to be chosen to lead the joint venture team that will oversee the design and construction of this project.

Construction is scheduled to begin next year, with services set to start in late-2021.
