The Australasian Railway Association (ARA) has backed the 2014-2015 transport infrastructure budget set by the New South Wales (NSW) government.
ARA CEO Bryan Nye has supported the $9bn investment to expand infrastructure and public transport services, in order to improve transport in Sydney.

Nye said: "With congestion costing Sydney more than $5 billion each year, this giant allocation of funding for transport infrastructure, including the $1.5 billion allocation to build new rail and light rail lines, will see Sydney provided with a world-class transport network.
"Liveable cities are built for walking, with bicycling and public transit as complementary modes. This budget sets Sydney on a course to becoming one of Australia’s, if not the world’s, most liveable cities."
The government has allocated $7m for the Sydney Rapid Transit project, which connects the northern suburbs to the CBD.
Approximately $1bn was used in the construction of the North and South West Rail Links, which will operate completely automated, high capacity trains.
