Australia’s New South Wales (NSW) Government is to open a new rail maintenance centre in Western Sydney.
The move is part of the government’s $60m project to build eight new maintenance centres and four smaller satellite facilities, in order to modernise outdated maintenance practices in the rail network.

The proposed facility will become operational in July and follows the launch of five other centres in Blacktown, Sydenham, Glenfield, Wollongong and Gosford.
Work on other facilities at Lawson, Hornsby, the CBD and Granville is in progress.
NSW transport minister Gladys Berejiklian said: "We have now reached another major milestone, with 75% of around 130 disjointed maintenance depots now spread into six brand new centres across the rail network."
Sydney Trains has made significant improvements in maintenance, since it started operations in July 2013.

The government plans to increase its total rail maintenance funding to $1.12bn in 2014-15.
