US railroad ties manufacturer IntegriCo has secured a purchase order for 5,000 crossties (‘railway sleepers’) from a major regional transit line.
IntegriCo’s rail ties are anticipated to last up to five times longer than the wooden ties used previously on the transit railway system.

IntegriCo CEO Scott Mack said: "We are proud to have been selected by another major railroad customer seeking to improve their track infrastructure."
"Cities are now confident that the recycled plastic ties will eliminate waste plastic going to landfill, while also reducing the long-term costs to maintain their critical rail systems."
The company’s railroad ties are currently installed in Class I, short rail and industrial customers’ tracks in the US, Mexico, Canada and India.
In March, Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal and Mack announced plans to invest $20m to establish a facility to manufacture rail ties, crossings and industrial mats using landfill-bound plastic waste.
