To be finished in 2018, the rail plan will be used as a planning tool for bolstering California’s overall state rail system and aims to prioritise state funding and actions to integrate the rail network.

The plan also expects to provide a long-term strategy, which will help Caltrans, California High-Speed Rail Authority, intercity and commuter rail operators, freight railroads and communities to formulate their future plans.

The 2018 rail plan will also be based on regional plans and provide a statewide vision for an integrated high speed, intercity and commuter passenger rail system with dependable, timed connections and more transportation options.
