The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) has officially opened Phase II of the Expo Line extension to Santa Monica in the US.
The 6.6 mile extension includes seven stations from Culver City to Santa Monica at a cost of $1.5bn. It is the second rail project funded by Los Angeles County’s Measure-R sales tax initiative to open this year.

The seven stations include Palms, Westwood; Rancho Park, Expo; Sepulveda, Expo; Bundy, 27th Street; Bergamot, 17th Street; Santa Monica College; and Downtown Santa Monica.
The Expo Line has 19 stations along the 15.2 miles between Downtown Los Angeles and Downtown Santa Monica, which will take passengers only 46 minutes.
Metro’s board second vice chair and mayor Eric Garcetti said: "For the first time in a generation, Angelenos and visitors from around the world can travel from our skyline to the shoreline without setting foot in a car, bringing needed relief to some of our most congested corridors.
"This extension of the Expo Line, along with the recently-opened Gold Line extension and the Crenshaw-LAX Line that is now halfway complete, will improve quality of life by delivering convenient, affordable, and efficient transportation to more people than ever before."

By GlobalDataPhase II of the extension features a paved bike path that stretches adjacent to the tracks from Culver City to 17th Street and SMC Station.
Parking is also available at three stations, including Expo Sepulveda (260 spaces), Expo Bundy (217 spaces) and 17th Street SMC (67 spaces).
