Australia's Queensland Government is reportedly set to approve a plan to upgrade Sunshine Coast railway line that connects Brisbane with the Sunshine Coast.

The state’s infrastructure authority Building Queensland’s second pipeline report has classified the Beerburrum-to-Nambour rail duplication as investment-ready.

Estimated to cost $780m, the upgrade is expected to be considered for allocation of funds at the upcoming state budget session.

The rail line is expected to improve the national freight rail freight transport network and the economic condition of the area, reported Sunshine Coast Daily.

"The Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade Project will improve connectivity in South East Queensland."

Queensland infrastructure, local government and planning minister Jackie Trad said: “This update to the Pipeline affirms the need for the Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade Project, a major priority for the Sunshine Coast community, which will provide a more integrated and effective transport system and improve connectivity in South East Queensland.”

Trad also stated that the government has made a commitment to fund five projects from the first Building Queensland pipeline, including Cross River Rail, vital M1 upgrades and the European Train Control System.

In addition, 19 proposals were recommended in the Pipeline Report, which features an analysis of Queensland’s priority infrastructure projects.

The proposals include modernisation of Port of Townsville, building a new correctional precinct for Southern Queensland and several road and dam upgrades.
