Electrification of these two lines is expected to improve operational convenience and the overall mobility of passenger and freight trains.

The Guntakal-Raichur-Wadi section currently consists of 26 stations and acts as a crucial link for Mumbai and North India.

The Guntakal-Wadi electrification project was approved in 2009-2010 and comprises 228rkm, as well as 547 track kilometres (tkm).

"Electrification of these two lines is expected to improve operational convenience and the overall mobility of passenger and freight trains."

South Central Railway has completed the project in two separate Wadi-Raichur and Guntakal-Raichur phases, at a total cost of INR2077m ($32m).

Electrification of the section Nallapadu-Cumbum-Diguvametta-Dhone-Guntakal was approved in 2012-13 at a projected cost of INR3633m ($56.m), and will consist of a total of 426rkm.

The section between Nallapadu-Cumbum is completed on the Guntur-Nandyal-Guntakal rail route under the project. This section comprises 165rkm and 200tkm.

The passenger trains between Tenali-Markapur can now be converted from Diesel Loco hauling to Electric Loco hauling following the electrification, thereby reducing fuel cost and pollution.
