EBI Lock computer-based interlocking systems lock and release train routes on main line and mass transit systems. They supervise and control wayside objects such as signals, point machines and level crossing protection.
The systems are designed for quick installation, flexibility and cost-effectiveness, and are easily adapted to different signalling principles. The interlocking systems are built on established safety principles and fail-safe signalling technology.
Through Bombardier’s collaboration with Swedish State Railways, the first computer-based interlocking (CBI) system in the world went into operation in 1978. Now in its latest generation, the new EBI Lock 950 Compact CBI state-of-the-art technology uses the same basic design for safety principles, proven and in use for more than 35 years.
The EBI Lock 950 Compact CBI can be presented in three different configurations depending on the number and complexity of the objects that need to be controlled:
For large configurations, as in previous generations, the EBI Lock 950 Compact CBI is comprised of an interlocking computer and a stand-by back up computer, but allows a significant reduction of object controllers, that together with the transmission system ensure maximum route availability and safety on the rail network. It can control up to 3,000 objects and, for extreme environmental conditions, a ruggedised version is available.
For small and medium configurations, the interlocking computer and the object controller systems merge into the same cabinet resulting in a more compact configuration. The smallest configuration can control from one up to 50 objects, and the medium configuration can control up to 300 objects or more. The outdoor cabinet has the same size for both configurations and can be strengthened with different types of metal for outdoor applications in severe environmental conditions.
