PHAR Philippines and Trackmate Business Solutions have reportedly partnered to deploy a passenger information system on Metro Manila trains in April.
Both partners will install approximately 1,000 of the GPS-triggered real-time passenger information systems.
The system, which will be called Tube, will feature on Light Rail Transit Lines 1 and 2, as well as Metro Rail Transit Line 3.
Tube is designed to offer commuters information about the next train station. It also provides alerts in case of emergencies that could disrupt services.
Equipped with built-in closed-circuit television (CCTV), it will provide train operators with information about congestion and track incidents.
Furthermore, the system will display traffic updates, news, weather reminders and short videos.
Tube is set to be fully operational on MRT3 trains by April and on LRT1 by July. It has already been installed on all LRT2 trains.
Light Rail Transit Authority Administrator Reynaldo Berroya said: “With the system from Tube, an easier and more comfortable commute awaits LRT and MRT passengers as this new technology will keep them abreast with real-time information and other vital train service information, apart from keeping them entertained.”
