Xizi Otis Elevator has been selected as a lead supplier of 132 escalators and elevators to Shanghai’s Metro Line 17 in China.

The new 35km-long Metro Line 17 is being built as part of Shanghai’s 12th Five-Year Plan and is expected to start operations by 2018.

The line starts from Hongqiao Railway Station, Minhang District, to Oriental Land, Qingpu District, and will have 11 stations.

Xizi Otis supplies will also include 28 energy-saving Gen2 machine-room-less elevators and 104 XO21NP systems designed for high-traffic public infrastructure.

Xizi Otis is a part of Otis, a unit of United Technologies (UTX). The company has currently delivered around 400 escalators to Shanghai Metro Lines 2, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 16, along with associated maintenance services.

The new escalators to be used on Line 17 are specially designed for urban public transport and will be are equipped with a high loading capacity powertrain and more than 30 safety devices to ensure continuous, stable and reliable operation.

Earlier this month, Xizi Otis Elevator has won a contract to maintain all 110 Otis escalators installed at Beijing South Railway Station in China.

The contract was re-awarded due to its Back-Home Inspection programme, which provides complimentary inspection services for the company’s elevators and escalators in China.

Xizi Otis has so far delivered around 3,000 escalators for metro networks in more than ten major cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Dalian, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wuhan, Kunming, Chengdu and Shenzhen.
