VIA Rail Canada (VIA Rail) and the municipality of Ste-Anne-De-La-Pocatière have reopened the waiting room of the La Pocatière train station, following modernisation works.

The modernisation project is in line with VIA Rail’s programme to revitalise underused train stations throughout Canada. Work under the project included the installation of a timed door opening system synchronised with the train schedule at the station.

VIA Rail president Yves Desjardins-Siciliano said: "We are very pleased that the city has been so open to the idea of restoring this historic building.

"From now on, our customers in this region can enjoy a warm and comfortable waiting room, while residents will be able to use it for other community activities.

"We hope that this collaboration will serve as a model and inspire other Canadian communities with underused stations."

The station may further be improved with renovations by adding other possible community or regional services in the near future.
