Regio 2N train

Bombardier Transportation has been awarded a contract to supply Regio 2N train sets to the Syndicat des Transports d’Ile-de-France (STIF) and SNCF.

Representing an additional order in the framework of an ongoing contract signed in 2010, the €397m contract covers the delivery of 42 eight-car suburban Regio 2N versions from the Bombardier Omneo platform of extra-wide double-deck electrical multiple units.

The 110m-long Regio 2N trains will have five seats in each row to offer more seating capacity compared to conventional double-deck trains, and are designed to operate with three units coupled together, enabling it to transport a total of 3,120 passengers, with 1,746 seated passengers.

The seats would come equipped with arm rests and electrical sockets, wide windows and indirect lighting, while a modern information system with sound and screens will also be installed in the trains to keep passengers well-informed.

Fully compliant with European accessibility standards (TSI PRM), the modular Regio 2N fleet will also feature an intelligent air conditioning system that will adjust according to the number of onboard passengers, as well as a passenger alarm and an automatic door shutting management system.

All doors provide level access from 55cm station platforms, while two cars in each train set are equipped for persons with reduced mobility, with an automatically operated ramp and two areas for wheelchairs.

The eight 1.6m access doors and the 2.3m-wide gangways would ease the flow of passengers boarding and leaving the train to optimise stopping time in stations.

Apart from offering substantial maintenance optimisation, the Regio 2N fleet also bring benefits in terms of operational costs with energy savings of about 20% a passenger due to Bombardier MITRAC Permanent Magnet Motor, the electrical energy reuse during braking and a light steel structure.

Delivery of the new trains, which are scheduled to operate on Line R of the Parisian suburban network, will start in September 2017.
