Estonian railway operator Elron is set to take delivery of its final FLIRT train from Stadler Rail, as part of the delivery and leasing contracts signed by the two companies in 2010.

The passenger train fleet of 38 FLIRT units is said to enhance the service quality delivered by Elron. The trains have already delivered a 45% average increase in passengers.

In August 2010, Elron placed separate orders with Stadler for 18 EMUs and 20 DMUs.

The first electric unit was put into service in July 2013 and the first diesel train in January. Since the launch of the service, the new trains have run a total of 1.2 million kilometres on the Estonian railway network and provided a service of approximately five million trips for passengers.

The FLIRT trains have 3,500mm-wide carbodies, have a top speed of 160km/h and are equipped with supercapacitors to deliver energy savings.
