RapidKL LRT services owner and operator Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad is set to start the first stage of the Ampang LRT line extension project from Seri Petaling to Bandar Kinrara in Malaysia from October 2015.

The Ampang Line extension will be completed in stages, with the first stage to cover the first four stations by 30 October 2015.

The second stage of the project is expected to cover the remaining stations and will be operational by the end of March 2016.

The extended Ampang Line will have 11 stations, including new stations at Awan Besar, Muhibbah, Alam Sutera and Kinrara BK5; opened under first stage of the project.

The company is currently acquiring 50 new sets of six-car train from CSR, of which 30 sets will replace the company’s fleet operating since 1996.

The first six-car train set acquired for the project from CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive (CSR) was recently unveiled and is scheduled for delivery to us in the fourth quarter of this year.

Features of the new train sets include six compartments for wheelchairs; automatic train system with attendant, dynamic route display map, on-board CCTV and LCD infotainment screen.

The extended Ampang Line will increase capacity to over 400,000 passengers per day; up from the current 200,000 passengers.
