London Underground extends track maintenance contract with Balfour Beatty

UK infrastructure firm Balfour Beatty has secured a £170m two-year extension to its Track Partnership contract for London Underground.

UK infrastructure firm Balfour Beatty has secured a £170m two-year extension to its Track Partnership contract for London Underground.

The company was appointed in 2010 on a contract, which included an option to extend for a further two years to deliver essential track renewal work across the London Underground network.

The contract extension means the Track Partnership, an alliance between Balfour Beatty Rail and London Underground, will continue until 2018.

Under the extension, Balfour Beatty will continue to provide design, labour and materials, as well as surveying, supervision and management of the works.

The scope of work will also include installation of points and crossings and ballasted track renewal along with associated drainage, signalling, traction power and conductor rail works.

"With world-class expertise in track, electrification and power supply systems, Balfour Beatty Rail is a significant player in the UK rail infrastructure market."

Balfour Beatty Group CEO Leo Quinn said: "With world-class expertise in track, electrification and power supply systems, Balfour Beatty Rail is a significant player in the UK rail infrastructure market.

"We have utilised these market-leading skills and expertise working with London Underground over the last 13 years.

"This extension is a clear sign of London Underground’s confidence in the capability of Balfour Beatty within the Track Partnership."

The company will also focus on improving efficiencies, including measures which will see project managers given more accountability for driving down costs.

Balfour Beatty Rail, which focuses on feasibility studies, planning, design, implementation and asset management, also provides multi-disciplinary rail infrastructure services across the lifecycle of rail assets.
