Germany’s Lower Saxony State public transit authority LNVG has placed orders with French train maker Alstom to deliver six new Coradia Lint 41 regional trains.

The €25m contract stems from an initial €120m order signed by both companies in 2011 to supply 28 Alstom Coradia Lint 54.

The contract will also include modification of 13 Coradia Lint regional trains already in-service by Alstom to enable operation as multiple units with the new trains.

Alstom Transport Germany managing director Martin Lange said: "Through this order, we are continuing our long-standing, successful partnership with LNVG and are helping to further improve the services available for passengers between Wilhelmshaven, Osnabrück and Bremen.

"With these six new vehicles, LNVG will now have ordered 126 Coradia Lint trains from us."

Scheduled to enter operational service in 2016, the new and modernised trains will be operated by erixx, which will be provided from LNVG through a vehicle pool.

"The new Coradia Lint 41 trains can travel at a top speed of 120kmph."

erixx has taken delivery of the first Coradia Lint as part of the initial order placed in 2011. The remaining trains will enter into operation between Harz and Lüneburger Heide by late 2014.

The first Coradia Lint pre-series vehicle has obtained special permit to ride on public tracks without passengers and will be used for training purposes for the future drivers.

Equipped with security cameras for increased passenger safety, Coradia Lint belongs to Alstom’s Coradia range of modular trains.

Designed to accommodate a total of 232 people, including 114 seats, the new Coradia Lint 41 trains can travel at a top speed of 120kmph and feature wheelchair spaces, dedicated toilets and a bridge to overcome the gap between the train and the platform edge.

Work on the latest order will be carried out by Alstom in Salzgitter, Germany, and Katowice, Poland.
