Germany-based braking system manufacturer Knorr-Bremse has signed an agreement to acquire train control management specialist Selectron Systems of Lyss, Switzerland.
This acquisition will help Knorr-Bremse to expand its portfolio to include components and solutions for the automation of rail vehicles.

Selectron Systems develops advanced solutions for the automation, networking, and control of rail vehicles with reliable and robust components at appropriate cost and enhanced safety standards, Knorr-Bremse said.
As a result of this development, Selectron Systems will be capable of using Knorr-Bremse’s global sales and service network.
The train control management specialist currently employs more than 100 people. The purchase of the company is subject to approval by the anti-trust authorities.
As part of its strategy to expand the business network, Knorr-Bremse has acquired companies such as train doors manufacturer IFE, air-conditioning systems provider Merak and station platform screen doors builder Westinghouse, International Railway Journal reported.

In September last year, Knorr-Bremse Rail Systems secured a £28m contract from UK’s Crossrail to provide platform screen doors for deployment in various stations.
The contract will allow Knorr-Bremse to deploy full-height platform screen doors at Paddington, Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon, Liverpool Street, Whitechapel, Canary Wharf and Woolwich Crossrail stations.
