Helsinki City Transport HKL is to buy 40 new trams with a €60m ($65.4m) loan from the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB).

Manufactured by Transtech, the new low-floor Artic model trams will replace the existing 1970 models and offer 50% more passenger capacity than previously, provide access for wheelchairs and prams and be more energy-efficient.

Siemens has been awarded Quito’s Metro Line 1 electrification contract by the Acciona-Odebrecht construction consortium.

The contractual scope includes complete electrification of the new 20km-long, metro double-track. This involves supply and installation of 46km of rigid catenary, 11 traction power supply stations, 6km of flexible catenary, and 29 auxiliary power supply stations.

Siemens will also supply a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system for monitoring and controlling the traction power supply.
