Bombardier Transportation has been awarded a $143.7m contract by London Underground (LU) as part of the Central Line Improvement Programme (CLIP).

The deal will see the company provide the latest MITRAC alternating current (AC) traction systems and MITRAC traction control equipment on-board 85 eight-car Central line trains.

Bombardier will also offer maintenance support to the LU’s Central line fleet until 2024 as part of the contract.

MITRAC AC traction systems and traction control equipment will be supplied from Bombardier’s Västeras site in Sweden, while the installation, testing and other vehicle integration works will be carried out in Derby, UK.

Thales has received a contract to supply an automatic fare collection (AFC) system for the extension of Bangkok Metro’s Blue Line, which is also known as Chaloem Ratchamongkhon MRT line.

The French company had previously supplied AFC systems for 18 stations along the line, and the latest contract includes an additional 19 stations to be integrated with AFCs.
