Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MRB) has appointed an Alstom-lead consortium to supply a new metro system for the under-construction Hanoi Metro Line-3 in Vietnam.

Alstom has a €190m ($202.2m) share in the consortium, which includes Colas Rail and Thales as partners.

Work includes supply and integration of a metro system, comprising ten Metropolis train sets, the Urbalis 400, and Alstom’s CBTC solution, as well as the power supply and depot equipment.

Alstom will use its French sites Valenciennes, Saint-Ouen, Le Creusot, Tarbes, Ornans, and Villeurbanne to deliver the contract.

SNC-Lavalin has secured a $13.7m, five-year contract from the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA).

Under the contract, SNC will provide project management, engineering, and administrative consultancy support services, as well as quality assurance services for electric locomotives and multi-level cab and coach car procurement projects in the state.

The Canadian construction firm has also received a contract from Purple Line Transit Partners (PLTP) in the US to provide consulting engineering oversight and project management services to light-rail vehicles for the on-going Purple Line project in Washington DC.

Network Rail has awarded a £49m ($60.1m) contract to Carillion Powerlines for the next phase electrification of Scotland’s railway network between Holytown and Midcalder junctions.

Electrification of the 74km line will be completed by March 2019. It will involve the erection of stanchions and the stringing of overhead power lines. The project will further enable introduction of electric services on Edinburgh-Glasgow Central through Shotts, Scotland.
