DB Schenker Rail has started a new train connection in Turkey, in a bid to expand its transport services in the country.
Running between Cologne, Germany and Cerkezköy, Turkey, the connection has been established for freight forwarder Ulusoy Logistics, which transferred its existing traffic from road to rail.
The trains are equipped with special double-pocket wagons for the transport of semi-trailers.
The transport connection between Western Europe and Turkey was previously operated through ferry and truck.
In September 2013, the company’s Bosporus Shuttle started offering rail services from Germany to Turkey.
DB Schenker Rail management board regional head Hans-Georg Werner said: "With our national companies, DB Schenker Rail already has a strong presence in south-east Europe.
