Alstom and Transmashholding have signed an agreement to develop and produce new 2ES5 electric locomotives for Russia Railways (RZD).
The agreement follows a contract from RZD to supply 200 freight locomotives worth €1bn signed in June 2011.
The 2ES5 locomotive will be designed by TRtrans, a joint venture company that Alstom and Transmashholding set up in December 2010 while the key components will be manufactured by a second joint venture company, Railcomp.
The 2ES5 locomotive is an asynchronous double-bogie freight locomotive to run at speeds of up to 120km/h with total output of 7600kW.
Alstom’s share in this contract is worth €400m and the first deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2012.
