UK train operator Abellio Greater Anglia (AGA) has unveiled new rail services between Cambridge and Stansted Airport, in a bid to offer better travelling options for passengers.
The new connection was officially launched by UK Rail Minister Claire Perry and was possible after the UK Government signed a new direct award franchise agreement with AGA.
The increase in services along the route follows the recommendations of a study into airport capacity in the UK, which was conducted by the Airports Commission. The study also pointed to the importance of surface access to the country’s airports.
Minister Perry said: "This deal will improve the region’s international connections to the rest of Europe.
"Strong transport links are the key to our long-term economic plan, which is why we are investing £38 billion over the next five years on maintaining and improving our railways."
The new services is expected to double the number of off-peak trains running along the route and provide 1,700 seats a day, offering greater choice, better travelling experience and convenience to passengers.
