ABSOPULSE Electronics’ BAR 250R-D3 series of RIA12 DC-DC converters deliver up to 250W output power in railway rolling stock applications.

The converters offer input voltage surge-withstand capacity 3.5 times nominal input voltage for 20 milliseconds and meet the requirements of RIA12 with wide margins. RIA12 is the general specification for protection of traction and rolling stock equipment from transients and surges in DC control systems.

The units operate from 36Vdc, 48Vdc, 72Vdc, 96VDC or 110Vdc, with wide EN50155 input ranges. At 24Vdc input, the units are derated to 200W.  They deliver 12Vdc, 24Vdc, 48Vdc or 110Vdc. Custom input and output voltages are available on request.

Designed to meet the requirements of EN50155, the units also comply with EN50121-3-2, EN61000-4-2, EN61000-4-3, EN61000-4-4 and EN61000-4-6 and other railway related standards. Other protection features include 3000Vdc input-output isolation, reverse polarity protection, overload and overvoltage protection, thermal protection and current limiting.

The BAR 250R-D3 converters are enclosed in robust die cast aluminium IP66-rated packages that ensure immunity to the ingress of water from powerful jets, fog, sand, metal dust, dust, oil, insects and other contaminants. The input and output are via sealed cable glands, circular connectors or custom connections.

Cooling is by internal conduction to the walls of the IP66-rated enclosure and by baseplate to an external chassis or cabinet wall, with additional convection via the outside surface. The units operate within a -25°C to +55°C cold plate temperature range for full specification. Extended temperature ranges are available on request.
