Porterbrook has received a contract from Rail Operations Group (ROG) for supplying two bi-mode FLEX trains.

The contract is an outcome of ROG’s strategy to shift to rail postal services for logistics and express parcels.

Porterbrook will renovate two of its FLEX trains for ROG to deliver goods to single or multiple clients. The trains are scheduled to enter service in early-2020.

The bi-mode trains, with the ability to operate on electrified and non-electrified routes, will ensure rapid transportation of shipments.

Vossloh has acquired Strabag’s rail milling business.

Announced in November 2018, the acquisition was closed this month.

The integration is set to boost Vossloh’s milling business and allow it to expand its services.

Sphera has acquired Petrotechnics for an undisclosed sum, with the aim of digitising applications and foreseeing risks at operational level with real-time data.

Based in the UK, Petrotechnics offers software and services to global organisations in hazardous industries.

Based in the US, Sphera is a global provider of Integrated Risk Management software and information services.

Bombardier Transportation has received a contract from New Jersey Transit (NJ Transit) for supplying 113 Multilevel III passenger rail cars.

The $669m contract also includes an option to supply up to 886 additional cars. The vehicles to be delivered under the contract include cab cars, trailer cars, restroom-equipped trailer cars and new power cars.

The Multilevel III cars will be installed with colour infotainment screens, USB charging ports, video surveillance system and motorised restroom doors.

The passenger rail cars will also be equipped with bicycle racks, an LED lighting system with brightness control and broader entryways for better wheelchair accessibility.

A Positive Train Control system will be set up across all the vehicles for operational safety.
