Stadler Group CEO Thomas Ahlburg said: “Our long-standing partnership with ABB provides us with leading and reliable traction equipment on our trains, including traction transformers and converters, onboard power supply systems and battery chargers.

“ABB traction equipment drives over 3,000 Stadler vehicles from tramways to locomotives. Together, we have made rail transport more efficient, with improvements for passengers and the environment.”

Designed to power electric trains, the ABB’s traction technologies convert the electrical energy procured from the overhead power lines into permissible voltage and frequency, to operate the traction motors.

“Trains can be both more energy-efficient and carry more passengers.”

Converters are based on the company’s multilevel topology and are developed using the latest semiconductor technology to reduce the relative weights of components.
