Global infrastructure firm AECOM has been contracted by the China Communications Construction Company to provide site supervision services for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project in Malaysia.

The scope of the contract covers the project’s stations, viaducts, tunnels and depots.

The project forms part of the Malaysian Government’s comprehensive transportation plan.

It is set to connect Kuala Lumpur and Port Klang to the East Coast via a railway network that serves key hubs within the East Coast Region, travelling through Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and parts of Selangor.

AECOM Malaysia Country director Patrick Wong said that the planned rail infrastructure will facilitate the creation of new jobs, stimulate industries and improve mobility, as well as open up new opportunities for the people in the East Coast states.

The rail project is expected to be completed in 2024.

AECOM is primarily engaged in the design, construction, financing and operation of infrastructure assets for governments, businesses and organisations across more than 150 countries worldwide.

The company reported a total revenue of roughly $18.2bn during the fiscal year 2017.
