The Filipino Government has unveiled plans to restart the cancelled China-funded rail project as part of a $11.5bn infrastructure development programme over the next five years.

The projects include an 80km high-speed North Rail project which will span from Manila to Clark.

The project was originally launched by former Philippines president Gloria Arroyo with a $400m Chinese loan in 2004, who later cancelled the project amid allegations of corruption.

The project has been revived after China agreed to reconfigure the funding terms and the design.

Another $126m will be spent on national infrastructure projects and $146m on upgrading two of metropolitan Manila’s light rail lines.
