Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded a S$190m (US$150m) contract to Shanghai Tunnel Engineering for the construction of Tuas station on the Tuas West Extension.

The scope of work includes the construction of an elevated station at Tuas Road as well as about 2.8km of elevated MRT viaducts.

Tuas West Extension is part of the East-West Line from Joo Koon station and consists of a 7.5km twin-tracked MRT viaduct, four above-ground stations, including Tuas station, and a depot.

The extension will provide better connectivity to commuters working in the Jurong and Tuas industrial estates.

The construction on the project will commence by late 2011, and is expected to be completed in 2016.
