Wilson station

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has approved two contracts for the construction of Wilson and 95th/Dan Ryan stations, worth $176.7m.

Under the first $153.6m contract, the Wilson project will see construction of a new station in place of the badly deteriorated station house, to serve as a new transfer point between Red and Purple Line service.

Work under the $203m Wilson project also includes the reconstruction of 2,200ft-long elevated tracks, signals and supporting infrastructure that will be relocated from the street and pavements along Broadway and Wilson to the west.

The new $240m 95th Street/Dan Ryan station project will replace and expand the existing structure with two new station buildings, under the second $23.1m contract.

"The Red Line is the backbone of the CTA rail system, carrying nearly 40% of all rail rides."

This station serves as the southern terminal of the Red Line and as a bus terminal for more than 1,000-weekday CTA and Pace bus trips.

CTA president Forrest Claypool said: "The Red Line is the backbone of the CTA rail system, carrying nearly 40% of all rail rides.
