C30 MOVIA

Bombardier Transportation and the Stockholm Traffic Administration have unveiled the design of the new C30 Movia metro for the Swedish capital’s Red line.

In June 2013, Bombardier secured a SEK5.1bn ($771m) order from Stockholm public transport body Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL) to supply 96 Movia trains to the Stockholm metro.

The new metro trains are expected to increase Stockholm’s transport capacity and comfort by transporting around 60,000 passengers per hour.

Bombardier Transportation Sweden managing director Klas Wåhlberg said: "When public transport is attractive, sustainable travel will increase.

"With this metro design, Stockholm has taken this motto to an entirely new level, to the benefit of both commuters and the city as a whole for many years to come."

The new trains feature additional bi-parting doors for faster entry and exit, and a mixed, four-by-four seating configuration with extra seats along the vehicle’s sides to provide better comfort, capacity and passenger flow.

Additionally, the trains deliver facilities for persons with reduced mobility, as well as providing extra room for those travelling with wheelchairs, baby carriages or extra-large luggage.

"The new metro trains are expected to increase Stockholm’s transport capacity and comfort by transporting around 60,000 passengers per hour."

They will also feature advanced passenger information systems and fulfil the highest environmental standards in terms of energy consumption and use of recyclable materials.

The Red line will connect Stockholm’s north-eastern and south-western suburbs directly to the city centre, with the new trains scheduled to commence operations on the line in early 2017.

In addition to the 96 Movia trains, the contract also includes an option for further 80 Movia metro vehicles.
