Metro XTrapolis train

Nomad Digital has received a contract from Australia’s Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) to equip its remote condition monitoring (RCM) systems on its Alstom X’Trapolis EMUs.

The RCM technology will initially be installed on four Alstom X’trapolis train units, with scope to implement the technology fleet-wide on a total of over 400 units, following a successful proof-of-concept.

Nomad’s proposal was supported by understanding of MTM’s objectives in further improving its operational maintenance regimes, as well as cost savings through the use of detailed operational data.

The secured data will allow the operator to pursue more preventative and intelligence-driven maintenance initiatives and practices.

"Nomad’s real rail engineering knowledge, combined with its global-leading on-board connectivity solution, enables the provision of a complete end-to-end solution for RCM requirements."

The proof-of-concept will be designed and deployed by Nomad Tech, a joint venture between Nomad Digital and EMEF.

The RCM technology is combined with an adaptable communications platform which will allow live CCTV, passenger information systems and entertainment functions to be supported in the future.

The team from Nomad will work with MTM to implement a RCM methodology that achieves the operator’s long-term operational goals, providing valuable data and analysis tools designed to improve the management, availability and reliability of its fleet, as well as its equipment and on-board train components.
