India’s Mumbai metro line 1 has succcessfully completed its first year of operational service.
In service since 8 June, the line is about to reach the 100 millionth passenger mark.

France’s RATP Dev and Transdev’s Asian joint venture, which runs the line, won a five-year contract to operate and maintain the infrastructure for the new metro.
The 50:50 RATP Dev Transdev Asia joint venture was established in 2009.
Serving 12 overhead stations and built on a viaduct, Mumbai’s 12km-long metro line 1 is part of a global project totalling 90km, that includes at least three other lines.
Anticipating up to 260,000 passengers a day, the line connects the city’s eastern and western suburbs.

By GlobalDataAlong with the increase in the city’s population, passenger capacity is expected to rise by 4% a year, RATP Dev said.
India intends to gain 500km of metro lines over the next five years.
RATP Dev Transdev Asia also runs the tramway in Hong Kong (30km and 118 stops), the Shenyang tramway (four lines and 60km), 130 lines and 2,000 buses in Nanjing and its environs, in addition to the Seoul metro line 9 (27km and 25 stations).
