Australia’s New South Wales (NSW) Government has awarded a A$2m contract to Tyco Integrated Security to equip 200 additional high-definition CCTV cameras at public transport locations across the region.

Over the next year, 22 train stations and coach stops will be equipped with high-definition CCTV, ensuring customer safety and assisting police with investigations when necessary.

"We’re doing everything we can to make sure safety is our number one priority, especially on our regional train and bus network."

NSW minister for transport and infrastructure Andrew Constance said: "We’re doing everything we can to make sure safety is our number one priority, especially on our regional train and bus network.

"Last year, we announced a trial of new personal staff safety cameras on selected regional services. Now with these extra security measures, we’re working to make sure customers’ journeys are as safe as possible, along with protecting our staff."

As part of the project, Tyco will also supply and install NSW TrainLink’s regional CCTV and Customer Help Points.

These additional CCTV cameras will be accompanied by new customer help points, which will connect customers to a 24/7 emergency support centre where real-time assistance can be provided.

According to Tyco, the rollout of this equipment will begin in the coming weeks.
